I am commanded by Kiy Lead Remissioners of the
Admiralty to acquaint you for the information of the
Secretary of state that they have had under consideration
the remuneration which should be granted to Naval Officers and Civilian Staff who are serving in H.M.Naval Establish- ments, Hong Kong, in order to recompense them for the low rate of exchange and the high cost of living on that
station.
From a statement recently received from the
Hong Kong Dockyard, it appears that European members of
the Hong Kong Civil Service have had a general increase of pay amounting to 20% and that a further increase is
under consideration. Further that civil servants in
actual occupation of houses have been granted a house
allowance ranging from $85 a month upwards. It is not
quite olear whether this latter payment is a regular part
of their emoluments or whether it is a new feature due
to abnormal circumstances obtaining at the present time.
to
I am therefore
he Under Secretary of State,
request that you will be so
